Keto Coffee! Part 1 – How to Order Low Carb at Starbucks

Since transitioning to lower carb and higher fats, I have been experimenting with coffee recipes!

Part 1, includes how to order at Starbucks to make your own concoctions.

Part 2, I’ll show you five low carb coffee recipes to try for yourself!

First things first: HOW TO ORDER 

Now I am not a coffee connoisseur. So forgive me if I leave something out. This is coffee / Starbucks as I know it.

You’ll probably make things easier for the barista if you ask for things in the order that is displayed on their cups.

  1. Hot or iced
  2. Size
  3. Decaf
  4. Number of shots
  5. Number of pumps of syrup
  6. Type of milk
  7. Followed by anything else you might like to add!

After Picking (1.) hot or iced, pick your (2.) size. The amount of caffeine per cup is as follows.

(3.) Caffeinated or decaffeinated. However I am not sure why you would be drinking decaffeinated coffee on a low carb meal plan. You’re better off saving those calories for something else!

(4.) Shots: if different (more or less) from what’s normally included in the drink. A shot is about 75mg of caffeine.

This is what you will automatically get if you don’t specify:

  • Short (8 oz): One shot
  • Tall (12 oz): One shot
  • Grande (16 oz): Two shots
  • Venti hot (20 oz): Two shots
  • Venti iced(24 oz): Three shots

(5.) When it comes to syrup, I would often read people getting up to 7 pumps! Little did I know, that is the norm and that correlates with the size you ordered! Duh. Remember to ask for SUGAR FREE syrup.

Again, if you don’t specify, here is what is included:

  • Short (8 oz): Two pumps
  • Tall (12 oz): Three pumps
  • Grande (16 oz): Four pumps
  • Venti hot (20 oz): Five pumps
  • Venti iced (24 oz): Six pumps
  • Trenta iced (32 oz.): Seven pumps

Here are A few of the sugar-free syrup’s you might be able to ask for:

  • Vanilla
  • Caramel
  • Cinnamon Dolce
  • Hazelnut
  • Peppermint
  • Mocha
  • (Maybe some others seasonally like pumpkin spice???)

(6.) Starbucks carries every type of ‘milk’ there is. They even have almond and coconut milk at most locations now! Stick to the milk that fits your macros or needs. Personally I go with heavy whipping cream for the higher fat content.

(7.) On the typical menu this would be sure things like whip cream, caramel drizzle, etc. )

My absolute favorite keto / low carb option to order is:

Grande Iced Latte. Sugar Free Vanilla with Heavy Whipping Cream.

  • 80 calories
  • 8 grams fat
  • 2 grams carbs / 2 grams sugar
  • 0 grams protein
